Joanna Lusek, The European Educational and Cultural Centre Zgorzelec- Görlitz MEETINGPOINT MUSIC MESSIAEN

Due to a research works taken up by a local group of historians and workers of The Lusatian Museum in Zgorzelec and The Silesian Museum in Gorlitz the history of The Stalag VIII A Görlitzis is being discovered anew. The forgotten history of the memorial site in Zgorzelec and its connection to Oliver Messiaen was reminded by The Meetingpoint Music Messiaen association. The concept of creating The European Educational and Cultural Centre Zgorzelec- Görlitz in the place where Stalag VII A Görlitz was situated has undoubtedly universal and timeless dimension to it. On a European scale it is not a common way to commemorate people’s fates and the tragedy of the Second World War. Reaching to the roots of the place and exposing the episodes connected with the history of the region and establishing the dialogue through the language of art will undoubtedly serve the purpose of creating a common cultural identity in future.
